Mask Mondays

OK, so it's not Monday but hey face masks are always a good idea. Masking was HUGE in 2018 and the array of weird and wonderful masks available now tells me 2019 isn't going to be any different. There is something about a face mask that takes self care and pamper night to a whole new level and they are definitely a crucial part of all treatments in my skin clinic.

With Summer fast approaching, long flights, days spent drinking in the beer garden, girls holidays (the devil for our skin), humidity and strong UV rays, our skin can definitely show signs of stress. The fastest and most effective way to battle our major skin concerns is a face mask.

So, I have decided to take you Dolls through the different types of masks out there, what they do and who they are for....

Purifying Clay Based Masks Ideal for - Combination/Oily

What is it - Most clay based masks are aimed at breakout prone and oily skins due to it's ability to unclog pores by drawing out impurities such as excess oil and dirt. Clay also has incredible detoxifying properties. It has a strong negative charge, which binds negatively charged toxins and draws them from the skin. Smaller pores are typical of healthy skin and clay masks can give you just that as well as regulating sebum production and leaving you glowing from within.

Try - Omorovicza Deep Cleansing Mask ~ Much more than a deep-cleansing treatment, this mask harnesses the power of transformative Hungarian Moor mud, rich in calcium and magnesium, to clear congested pores and draw out impurities. Skin appears instantly brighter. Exfoliating Masks Ideal For - Most skin types apart from sensitive

What is it - Exfoliating masks slough of dulling dead skin cells and purge deep-rooted dirt that clog our pores. The key ingredients usually include Alpha Hydroxy Acids such as Glycolic and Lactic acid and/or fruit enzymes such as papaya or pumpkin. They are the ideal treatment to brighten and offer gentle exfoliation as opposed to harsh scrubs. If you're looking for that LIT from within glow, then this is the mask type for you. They are great acne preventers and actually support other products absorption that are applied afterwards as well as evening skin tones and reducing pigmentation.

Try - Alpha-H Liquid Gold Smoothing & Perfecting Mask ~ As with most Alpha H products, the key ingredient is Glycolic acid, an AHA that effectively removes the "glue" that binds dead skin cells together making it simples to remove resulting in a built-in highlighter effect. GLOW GIRL GLOW!

Sheet Masks Ideal For - Most skin types What is it - A packaged piece of face-shaped fabric that sits in a concentrated version of one or more active ingredients until you're ready to use it. Sheet masks have a higher concentration of actives than a topical product, and depending on the material, the sheet can help deliver products deeper into the skin. The cotton sheets are doused in a serum-based formula and then placed on top of the skin, so they won’t work as well for tasks like exfoliating or cleansing deeply. However, since most are packed full of vitamins, amino acids, and minerals, they do come with their own set of benefits (more on that in a sec). They also won’t dry out the skin like a clay mask sometimes does.

Try - Genosys CO2 Mask Set ~ A sheet mask with a difference. This professional treatment combines a gel formula and a sheet mask. When they come into contact on the skin, a chemical reaction takes place which causes the Bohr effect. This brings blood flow to the surface of the skin which feeds skin cells with vital oxygen and nutrients giving amazing salon results from the comfort of your own home.

Sleeping Masks -   Ideal for - Dry/Dehydrated Skin What is it - Designed to help ingredients penetrate more deeply as you sleep, an overnight mask works both as a barrier and sealant. A light coating of this product prevents dirt and dust from closing in on your pores and locks in your other active products, letting all the goodness work more effectively without evaporating away. It’s designed to last longer on your face, be more potent, and deliver strong results over the course of the night, like intense hydration, brightening, and calming.

Try - Erno Laszlo Hydra Therapy Memory Sleep Mask ~ Rise and glow. This overnight formula goes on weightlessly, delivering unprecedented moisture and locking in vital nutrients while you rest. A true breakthrough in beauty sleep, its NASA-inspired memory gel texture melts into your complexion replenishing the moisture skin can lose overnight (up to 25% of its levels). Wake up hydrated, restored and refreshed thanks to a repairing mix of  24-hour Smart Hydrators

Calming Mask Ideal For - Most skin types What is it - cream mask is one of the most gentle face masks made to remove dead cells whilst toning and lifting skin. They typically contain ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid to provide a surge of hydration, restoring natural radiance. After using a cream face mask, your skin will feel soft, smooth and refreshed. They can also cool and soothe irritated or inflamed skin and reduce redness and sensitivity.

Try - Ren Evercalm Ultra Comforting Rescue Mask ~ A moisturising mask for sensitised skin, designed to instantly alleviate redness and irritation . Formulated to target the signs of sensitised skin, this calming mask uses an innovative bio-actives complex to strengthen skin's barrier as it moisturises, de-stresses, and comforts the skin, boosting its overall health.
