With the amount of products on the market these days, choosing a new day cream can be a daunting task. It sometimes feels like we need a PhD in Chemistry to decide what cleanser is best for our skin type. This can often make us skeptical about investing huge amounts of money into a product that you're not even sure is going to work for you *guilty*.
When working with new clients, I try to recommend affordable products for them to test the waters on incorporating new steps and ingredients into their routine without breaking the bank. So, here I have put together a list of my Top 5 for under £10
1. The Ordinary ~ Azelaic Acid 10% £5.50 -
If for some strange reason somebody told me I could only use ONE acid for the rest of my life (after laughing in their face) I would 100% choose this. It doesn't seem to be as well known as other acids such as glycolic and salycilic but oh boy does this stuff work. It is actually prescribed in higher doses of course for rosacea but I find it works great on red and inflamed breakouts too. This particular formula is very thick in texture so I always apply over my Doll Skin Pro Glow Serum which gives that little bit of slip that this product needs. I then layer over my moisturiser and SPF.
2. The Inkey List ~ Hyaluronic Acid £5.99 -
Anybody who knows me knows that I'm a devout fan of The Ordinary, but I just couldn't get into their version of HA at all. It balled up (pilling) under my makeup and it just didn't feel nice for me to apply. I would even go as far as saying it left a sticky residue on my skin. That said, a lot my clients use it and love it. I wasn't ready to give up on HA though, the benefits are huge in terms of anti-ageing and we can all do with a bit of help in that department. Enters the Inkey List, another budget no frills brand that is giving brands like The Ordinary and Revolution a run for their money. Their HA serum is so light, easily absorbs into the skin and doesn't pill at all even, even with my 10 step skin care routine! A new find but definitely a keeper.
3. Dr. Jart ~ Shake and Shot Soothing Mask £8 -
This brand has taken the rubber mask trend to a whole new level. Their packaging is not just enjoyable to use and keeps the mess to a minimum but VERY Instagrammable darrrling! It's no secret that Korean skincare is unreal and Dr. Jart's formula's do not disappoint. This particular mask is formulated with menadione and a calming blend of plant extracts, which soothes and repairs uncomfortable irritation, redness and blemishes. I like to apply my Inkey List HA serum underneath for added hydration.
4. The Konjac Sponge Co ~ Pure Konjac Puff Sponge with Green Tea £8.99 -
I do tend to neglect the skin on my body if I'm brutally honest. I'm lucky if I shave my legs once a fortnight and throw a bit of gradual tan on. I'm limited on time when it comes to self care believe it not. I can't remember the last time I had a bath without my three year old diving in with her 7 barbies and complaining that the bath water is too hot. For that reason, I prefer to spend what little time I do have for myself on layering my arsenal of lotions and potions on my face. Then somebody bought me this cute little green thing that made body care easy peasy! Pairing the gentle cleansing and exfoliating properties of the Konjac Sponge (made from natural plant fibre) with antioxidant-rich green tea, this Eastern alternative to traditional muslin cloths helps to refine your skin’s texture while supporting its defences. Suitable for all skin types, it’s perfect for those who live in urban, polluted environments – helping to neutralise the damaging effects of environmental aggressors and in turn, protect precious collagen to keep skin looking younger, longer.
5. Versed ~ The Shortcut Overnight Facial Peel £9.50 -
You can't beat the look and feel of a post peel glow. I've never been a lover of scrubs so always tend to reach for a chemical exfoliant when my dead skin needs polishing away. As with most at home peels, this contains glycolic and lactic acid but what makes this so enjoyable to use is that also contains rosehip and vitamin E ensuring that there is no irritation or redness that is often associated with peels. If you read my recent review on the Summer Friday's Jet Lag Mask then you will know I'm ALL about overnight masks at the moment and this Versed overnight peel is one of my faves!
