I’ll admit, I’m really late to the party with this one but I do have a good excuse. Having really oily and breakout prone skin, I tend to sway more to clay and charcoal based masks when treating myself to an at home facial. Which in all fairness are fab at reducing the oil slick on my forehead, as well as giving my pores a good old clear out. I’ve always steered clear of hydrating masks, because, well I just didn’t need them.
It’s safe to say this winter has taken it’s toll on my skin this year and I'm also *cough* older. I use a lot of acids to control my acne which can often sensitize and dehydrate my skin. So when looking for a hydrating mask, it obvs made sense to buy Kim Kardashian and Jessica Alba’s fave. The Jet Lag Mask by cult brand Summer Friday’s has taken the beauty world by storm since it launched in 2018 and I had to find out what all the fuss was about. I mean, if it’s good enough for Kim K, then it’s good enough for me and my dolls, right?
What the brand says:
“You don’t have to be a jetsetter to have that lag.
Upgrade your skin to a business-class complexion—no matter what time your red-eye gets in, or what time your head hits the pillow. This uber-dewy, hydrating mask soothes thirsty, stressed-out skin by steeping cells in a nourishing mix of vitamins, ceramides, antioxidants and gently exfoliating extracts. Skin looks instantly renewed, radiant and ready for anything!
Non-comedogenic, no phthalates, surfactants, petrolatums, BHT, BHA, or silicones”
The key ingredients in this famous formula are:
· CHESTNUT EXTRACT
Activates the natural exfoliation process, polishing away dullness so skin looks radiant, healthy and well-rested (even when you’re not).
· VITAMIN C
This powerful antioxidant brightens skin tone and behaves like a moisture-magnet, boosting the hydration barrier.
A naturally occurring compound of Vitamin B3 and nicotinic acid, this super ingredient visibly reduces pores, uneven skin and fine lines.
So, let’s get down to the nitty gritty. Is this worth the hype? In a nutshell, yes!
The directions tell you to apply a thin layer, leave on for 10 mins and then remove excess. BUT it does also say that you can leave this mask on with no need to remove. I was honestly quite nervous using this for the first time so I has zero intentions of leaving this on my skin overnight. I was asking for a breakout! To my surprise, a few minutes after applying this gorgeous creamy mask, it had completely soaked into my skin. The only way I can describe it is like a drink of water for my face. My skin looked and felt instantly hydrated and had a cute little “I’ve just been to the gym” glow going on. Safe to say, I didn’t wash it off! I let it work it’s magic for the next 8 hours while I snoozed and the next day I felt like a new woman. The tightness I was feeling before the mask was no more and the lit from within glow was even more apparent.
I can’t speak for the claims of it curing the signs of jet lag because who is lucky enough to vacay in January but this mask will definitely be a staple in my carry on luggage in the future. Could it be the excuse I need to book a trip? I WISH!
I purchased mine from Cult Beauty. What I’m loving about Cult Beauty is that they have introduced smaller sizes of many of their products which gives you the chance to try it without a hefty price tag. This time I grabbed the 28g size for £22.50 but you can also get 64g for £42.50.
To sum it up, I'm completely converted to hydrating masks and on the hunt to try more so if you have any recommendations, please comment below.
